Gold in Correction Mode – Update 28th of July 2026:

One week into the seasonal long window, the picture is one of partial confirmation. COT positioning has normalized and the $4,000 level has held — but not every signal agrees. Bullish Trend – Long Active / Mixed Confirmation

What's Confirmed Our Framework

The COT Index has moved from 82% into the 50–60% range we flagged as the threshold for a “meaningfully more attractive” setup. Price has also tested and held the $4,000 level — a level we were watching as structural support beneath the current trend. Combined with the seasonal window now being active rather than upcoming, two of our three original conditions have played out largely as expected.

What Hasn't Confirmed It

Not everything lines up cleanly, and we want to be upfront about that. Commercial hedgers have not reduced short exposure as our framework called for — net short positioning has actually deepened slightly since June. The Buy Score, which had been improving (1→3) at the time of the original piece, has since reversed back to 1. OBV Trend remains falling. These are the components of the framework that argue for caution rather than confirmation.

Where This Leaves Us

This is a case of partial confirmation, not a clean signal. The COT Index normalization and the defended $4,000 support level were significant enough, combined with the active seasonal window, to open a long position. But the Commercial positioning and Buy Score components are not yet confirming — they're the pieces we're watching most closely from here. As always: data leads, seasonality confirms, and here, the picture is mixed rather than unanimous.
